Bothwell Castle is the largest and finest 13th century stone castle in Scotland, much fought over during the Wars of Independence. It is just a 5 minute walk from my brother's house, and we took a walk about 9 oclock one evening just as the sun was setting.
It is free to walk around, and you can continue your walk along the footpath following the River Clyde.
